One of my favorite quotes is, “Music is one of the most effective means of impressing the heart with spiritual truth…” Music truly one of the rare life experiences that is absorbed by the mind and felt in the heart.
My name is Gisela Aguilar and I have been a musician my entire life. As a student of music and an accomplished professor, I have seen how music makes students mentally stronger, opens their minds to new way of thinking, builds tenacity and builds confidence. It has been shown to improve academic results like SAT Scores and High school GPA’s, even reading comprehension and math.
Music teaches student’s discipline. Learning a new skill doesn’t happen overnight; it can take many hours of patience, perseverance and practice to be successful. Even when things get hard, “pushing through” is a valuable life skill that they learn in my class.
Most importantly, music brings joy! When children can enjoy music, it fulfills a part of them that nothing else can reach, and brings joy to those around them.
Another favorite quote sums up all my beliefs about the place of music in school, “Let there be singing in the school, and the students will be drawn closer to God, to their teachers, and to one another.”
